PASTORS REPORT

Glen Elder Christian Church

2007

Dear Members and Friends of Glen Elder Christian Church:

I am aware that many of you are committed to the Lord in prayer to uphold the ministry of our church. We have been blessed with a year of growth in spiritual depth, active worshipers, consistent givers, and gifted service. The Lord has given us a heart for the ministry and a desire to see others succeed in the work of the Lord.

In giving an overview of our past year of ministry, I will highlight some of the events and accomplishments of the year. In many ways the achievements and effectiveness of the church's ministry are difficult to assess, because of the internalized nature of God's work in the believer's life. It often takes extended periods of time to produce visible fruit. It is with confidence in God's faithfulness that we continue to “plant and water” expecting that the Lord will give the increase.

I am grateful for the privilege of ministering alongside so many dedicated volunteers and staff. Here are some of the highlights from 2007.

  1. Building and Repair: I have always believed that we need to take care of God’s house. We did just that this past year in various areas, showing the community that we care about His house is a true testimony.

    1.  A group of students in the Electrical department from The North Central Kansas Technical College re-wired our church building. By installing new electrical boxes, components and wiring. This update to our building was a much needed project that ensures our safety by bringing our church up to code. A total completion is targeted for 2008.

                   B.  The men of our church replaced the sidewalk on the east side of

our building. The old sidewalk was damaged from age and weather.

Our men’s hard work truly paid off.

C.    Our sound room also had some work completed. Toni Wood, Keith

Wineinger, and Brent Cunningham have done much to improve

our sound room. They have added a counter top, and have opened

up a window to allow a more user friendly environment for our

Audio/Visual Team. This work is in progress and due for

       completion in 2008.

D.    O’Brien’s Stained Glass Company from Minnesota was contacted to refurbish our windows. They replaced the broken glass, clean the existing glass, replaced the lead frames, and added storm windows for protection. We also had new doors installed to our west and basement entrances. These enhancements really show the

beauty of our church. Our faithfulness and contributions made this

      possible.

E.    Parsonage work and repair:  Precision Contracting was contracted to add a new bathroom to the parsonage. John and Bob Cunningham dug out the section and over saw the project until completion. The bathroom has been a tremendous blessing. Thank you to all who made contributions to this project.

2.     IMPACT Youth Group: IMPACT has become an active ministry with a

desire to see the lost saved.  We have lost most of our high school

students through graduation and moving on to college. We now have an

all time high attendance of junior high students. In many ways, we are

starting over with fresh new faces that are eager to excel for Christ. We are

very excited to see what the Lord is going to do through IMPACT.

A.    IMPACT competed in two Teens For Christ Dodgeball Tournaments this past year. We competed against youth groups from not only our area, but with groups as far as Nebraska. IMPACT won the dodgeball tournament in Concordia, KS. These competitions encouraged many teens to get involved and have inspired them to grow stronger in their faith. We are looking forward to more Teens For Christ activities in 2008.

                  B.  Last summer, IMPACT participated in a statewide project

called the Reward and Reminder program, to prevent tobacco sales

to minors.  The Reward and Reminder program was very beneficial

to not only our youth but also for the youth state wide. We all should

be very proud of IMPACT for their service in keeping tobacco sales

                        from minors.

C.    IMPACT held their second annual campout retreat at Waconda Lake this past summer. IMPACT’s attendance grew this year, bringing in many new faces. During the retreat, IMPACT competed in the Waconda Lake Volleyball Tournament. The group really built team

unity during this time and are looking forward to participating in

      this event again next year.

  1. Contemporary Service:  During May of 2007 the church began an evening service.

    1. Our contemporary service has been successful in reaching new

members for our church. We have gained two new families in less

than a  year. We are very excited in seeing what the Lord has in

store for this second service. This service meets on Sunday evenings

at in the Life Ministry building.

    1. This casual and uplifting service has also provided an alternative time for worship. Each week, we see members from our morning service come for a second message and others come because they are unable to attend our morning worship. We are seeing the power of the Lord working in this service and are pressing forward in 2008.

  1. Personally from the Pastor: In 2007 we have seen lives touched and changed for Jesus in various areas. Our Baptisms were at an all time high  totaling 18 Baptisms. We rejoiced as lives were merged in Holy Matrimony with 5 Weddings, and we were blessed with 2 births in our church! We also grieved together as we said goodbye to 6 people that went home to be with Jesus. This past year has been an awesome year for each of us. For me, 2007 was a tremendously positive and encouraging year with much to be thankful for. I believe that we have a church that is alive and well, living for Jesus, and reaching the lost.  May we continue with His work in 2008, loving one another, reaching the lost, and keeping our faith!

May He direct, motivate, and empower us in 2008

that we might be used by Him to glorify Him by growing in His likeness and expanding His kingdom!
