The original Glen Elder Christian Church was built in 1886 on the present church site, a 100 x 88 foot lot purchased by a small group of Christians for eighty dollars. These Christians believed in baptism by immersion, serving the Lord’s Supper each Sunday, and using the Holy Bible as a basis for their preaching and teaching. In 1906 the church was enlarged by the south addition plus a belfry to house the Ladies’ Aid bell (originally erected on a derrick), and beautiful large stained glass windows gracing the east and west sides of the church. Electric lights were added in 1910, along with carpeting, an organ, primary chairs and individual communion service. Three classrooms and a baptistery were added on the north of the church and the basement was enlarged in 1920. A vestibule was built on the south in the ‘30’s. The educational wing was added on the west in 1966, most of the work being done by the congregation on eight classrooms and a children’s chapel.
In 2003, fulfilling the needs of a growing church, construction began on a 6000 square-foot Life Ministry Center with a spacious kitchen, two adult classrooms, two nurseries and a beautiful fellowship hall. The building was dedicated May 2, 2004.
For over 100 years, God has blessed our church family. The faith, work and dedication of our ancestors, our pastors and our congregation have continued to enlarge our church facilities. More importantly our faith continues to grow, along with our commitment to go from these doors to serve God and spread His Word throughout our community, our nation and our world.
